You’ll engage in top-notch research and teaching with a unique spectrum of disciplines, perspectives, and people – right in the heart of one of Germany’s most beautiful cities. The University of Freiburg’s human resources policy is oriented toward the principles of equal opportunity and diversity. The university is committed to the goal of creating a family-friendly university. Leibniz-Institut für Sonnenphysik (KIS) is a foundation of public law of the State of Baden-Württemberg and a member of the Leibniz Association. Its mission is to perform fundamental astrophysical research with an emphasis on solar physics. Current research foci are 1) dynamic solar atmosphere, 2) the Sun among stars, and 3) Instruments, Techniques and Data. KIS operates the German solar facilities at the Teide Observatory on Tenerife, including the 1.5m GREGOR solar telescope, and pursues a forefront instrument development program, including solar adaptive optics, Fabry-Perot systems and high-precision polarimetry. KIS participates in the Solar Orbiter space mission, Sunrise stratospheric balloon telescope, and the DKI Solar Tele- scope (DKIST). One of the first-light DKIST instruments, the Visible Tunable Filter (VTF), is being constructed at KIS. Further information can be obtained via the web page of the Institute (www.leibniz-kis.de). KIS strives to offer working environment based on principles of equal opportunity and diversity. It is certified as a family-friendly organization. The Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the University of Freiburg invites applications for a Full Professorship (W3) for Experimental Astrophysics with focus in Solar Physics in the Department of Physics. This is a joint Appointment between the University of Freiburg and the Leibniz-Institute for Solar Physics (KIS) with a simultaneous appointment as a member of the KIS board with the possibility to assume the institute Director function for a candidate with appropriate qualifications. Start-date: 01.04.2022. The successful candidate shall lead scientific work in the field of experimental solar physics and optical and near infrared solar instrumentation. Excellent knowledge and successful leadership in experimental astrophysics techniques, such as astronomical optical systems, adaptive optics, interferometry, polarimetry, spectroscopy, imaging, image reconstruction, solar observations, etc, are important prerequisites.
